WHERE WE COME IN

The guys at The Workspace Hero designed it.
We print it, finish it, and ship it, so you do not have to.

You found the DeskShelf, you want one on your desk, and somewhere between the files and the finished thing there is a 3D printer you do not own. That is what this page is about.

Credit where it is due

The modular desk shelf system, the dovetail rail, the family of add-ons that clip onto the dowels: The Workspace Hero designed all of it, tested it with a large community and refined it in public. They sell the STL files in their own shop for people who own a 3D printer and want to make it themselves. That is their product, it is a great one, and this page is not an alternative to it.

We hold the commercial license to make and sell the finished parts, the shelf and the accessories. That is the whole of our part in it: they designed it, we make it.

Inside a 3D printer making The Desk Shelf parts to order in Austin

What you don't need

No printer, no filament, no supports, no weekend printing.

Making this yourself is a real project. It is a machine, a spool, a bed that has to be level, hours of machine time per part, supports to clean off the ones that need them, and a run of parts that all have to come out the same color and the exact same size. People who enjoy that part should absolutely do it, and The Workspace Hero wrote a fifty page guide for them.

If that is not your idea of a good weekend, you order the parts from us instead. Each one is made to order in the color you chose, cleaned up, inspected and test fitted in Austin, TX, and packed ready to assemble. Nothing to download, nothing to source, nothing to calibrate.

The Desk Shelf parts laid out in black and in white, legs, top covers and sub-shelves
How you order it

Four steps, and the shelf is drawn on your own desk.

01

Measure your desk

Type in the width and the depth, straight or L-shaped. Everything after this is drawn to scale on top of it, so what you see is the size it will be.

02

Build the shelf

Place the legs, the top covers, the sub-shelves, the hanging walls and the drawer units where you want them. One straight section goes up to 48" long.

03

Add what you need

Headphone stands, Stream Deck mounts, laptop stands, chargers, cable management. They clamp onto the dowels, so you can move them later.

04

We make it and ship it

Made to order in Austin, TX, typically shipped within 5 to 7 business days, free over $99 to the lower 48 on orders that include a shelf.

ONE THING TO BUY YOURSELF

The dowels.

The rails that run the length of the shelf are 22 mm, or 7/8 inch, wooden dowels, and we do not ship them: postage on a bundle of wooden rods costs more than the actual rods! The design tool works out how many you need and the exact length of every cut, and gives you that list to hand across a counter.

Straight answers

The questions this page exists for.

Can I buy The Workspace Hero DeskShelf already printed?

Yes, that is what we do. The Workspace Hero sells the STL files for people who want to make it themselves. The Desk Shelf holds the commercial license to make and sell the finished shelf, so yours arrives made to order, sized to your desk.

What does The Workspace Hero DeskShelf cost printed?

A shelf starts at $49.95. The final price depends on the width of your desk and the accessories you pick, and the studio prices your exact setup before you order.

Can I get The Workspace Hero DeskShelf printed in a different color?

Yes. The Desk Shelf makes every shelf to order in black or white, and you pick the color in the studio before you check out. The wooden dowels keep their natural wood look either way, and they are most of what you see from the front.

Is this the same shelf The Workspace Hero designed?

Yes! Same design, same dovetail rail, same add-ons that clip to the same dowels. We make the parts under a commercial license from The Workspace Hero.

Do I need a 3D printer, or any files?

No. You just need a desk, its measurements and a hardware store within reach for the dowels. Everything else arrives made.

I already bought the STL pack. Can I still order parts?

Yes, and plenty of people do exactly that: make the simple parts themselves and order the ones they would rather not spend a day on. Nothing here asks where your shelf came from. The accessories page sells the add-ons on their own for the same reason.

Where does it ship from, and how long does it take?

Austin, TX, and every order is made when you place it rather than picked off a shelf, so it typically ships within 5 to 7 business days. Shipping is $11.95 to the 48 contiguous states and DC, free there over $99 on orders that include a shelf, and a flat $34.95 to Alaska, Hawaii, the US territories and APO or FPO addresses. We do not ship outside the United States.
