What is a desk shelf?

A desk shelf is an under-monitor shelf that raises the empty space beneath your screen into usable storage. The Desk Shelf is a modular version: a low shelf that sits under your monitor and holds add-on modules like drawers, stands and mounts, so everything on your desk has a place.

Do I need a 3D printer?

No. We sell the finished product, made to order and assembled-ready. You do not need a printer, files or any material. It arrives ready to set on your desk and use.

Is this the same desk shelf The Workspace Hero designed?

Yes! The Workspace Hero designed this modular desk shelf system and sells the STL files for people who own a 3D printer and want to make it themselves. The Desk Shelf holds the commercial license to make and sell the finished parts, so if you do not own a printer, or you do not want to spend a weekend at one, you order it here and we make it to order in Austin, TX.

How is this different from a monitor riser?

A monitor riser mostly lifts your screen. The Desk Shelf is built around storage and organization: it uses the wasted space under your monitor.

Will it fit my desk?

Most desks work. You enter your desk size when you design your shelf, and everything is drawn to scale on top of it, straight or L-shaped. The shelf itself can be built up to 48" wide. That 48" is one straight run on its own and does not count the corner sections, which add their own width on top of it. Corner sections are optional, so a straight run is a complete shelf and you add a corner only if you want one.

Does it work with two monitors, or with an L-shaped desk?

Yes to both. You draw your desk first, straight or L-shaped, and the shelf is built on top of it to scale, so a run wide enough for two screens is drawn at the width you actually have. One straight section can be built up to 48" long, and corner sections turn the shelf around the inside of an L and add their own width on top of that.

How tall is it, and how deep?

There are two depths and you choose one at the start: Standard is 8.2" from front to back and Compact is 6.8". The legs set the height. On the Standard they come at 3.4", 4.4" and 5.4", and on the Compact at 3", 4" and 5". Whichever you pick, the drawing shows it standing on your own desk at that size before you order anything.

How much can it hold?

The weight runs along the wooden dowels and down through the legs, so what matters is the distance between two legs rather than how long the shelf is. The design tool measures every span for you and says so on the drawing when one is long enough that a middle leg would keep the dowels from bowing under load. Put the legs where you plan to put the weight.

Does it arrive assembled?

It arrives ready to assemble, in the color you chose, with every part made for your design. The parts slide onto the dowels and clamp there. The dowels are the one thing you buy locally, and the design tool gives you the exact cut list to hand to a hardware store.

What can I store on it?

There are Desk Shelf add-on modules for almost anything on a desk: drawers, laptop stands, headphone stands, a MagSafe or wireless charger mount, tablet and Stream Deck mounts, pen cups, and much more including smart cable management, all on one modular desk shelf that you configure and design yourself!

What is it made of?

The shelf parts are made to order in PLA, a rigid plant based plastic, in black or white. The rails are 7/8 inch wood dowels. You buy those at any hardware store, and the design tool gives you the cut list so you know exactly what to ask for.

What colors and finishes are available?

The made-to-order parts come in black or white. The wooden dowels that run through the shelf keep their natural wood look in every setup.

How long does it take to ship?

Every order is custom made and typically ships within 5 to 7 business days. Shipping is $11.95 to the 48 contiguous states and DC, and free there over $99 on orders that include a shelf. Alaska, Hawaii, the US territories and APO or FPO addresses are a flat $34.95, with no free threshold. We do not ship outside the United States.

Can I return it?

Because each piece is made to order for you, we do not accept change-of-mind returns. If anything arrives damaged or not as described, reach out within 3 days of delivery and we will make it right.
